These companies are in the business to make money by selling medications. It is in their best financial interest to discover the most effective drugs to knock out diseases. The scientist who discovers a cure for malignancies and carcinomas will be the savior of a generation. The drug company that employed him or her will also make lots of profit off of the discovery. This is a win-win situation all around.
